Google Ads policy

Do I need LegitScript certification for a regenerative medicine clinic?

Almost certainly not, and the reason matters more than the answer. LegitScript is Google's accreditation route for telemedicine providers and online pharmacies. It is not a general permission slip for healthcare advertising, and it does not unlock stem cell or PRP, because those sit under a prohibition rather than a restriction and no certification unlocks a prohibition.

Read from Google’s healthcare and medicines policy and its sub-pages on 2026-09-19. The telemedicine route was an open question in our own files until that read closed it.

The answer

LegitScript is the telemedicine route. That is what it is for.

Google’s healthcare and medicines policy assigns NABP and .Pharmacy to online pharmacies, and states separately that Google allows telemedicine providers if they are accredited by LegitScript’s Healthcare Merchant Certification Program.

Before you pay for anything

Certification solves one problem. Check it is the one you have

WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY REFUSED FOR A prescription or pharmacy route Telemedicine prescribing, pharmacy sales, addiction treatment, prescription keywords. CERTIFICATION IS THE ROUTE There is a defined application and an approval. The service itself is prohibited Stem cell therapy. PRP. Exosomes. Gene therapy and similar. CERTIFICATION CHANGES NOTHING There is no certification for a prohibited service. Non-prescription aesthetics appears on no certification list at all, so there is nothing to apply for.

Clinics buy certification hoping it will unlock a service that is prohibited outright. It will not, and nobody refunds it. Read the exact wording of your refusal first: it names which of these two you are in.

Google Ads, Healthcare and medicines, answer/176031 and its sub-pages. That page is an index; the operative rules live on the pages it links to. Read 2026-09-22.

So the question to ask yourself is not “am I a healthcare business”, it is “am I a telemedicine provider or an online pharmacy”. A clinic where patients are seen in person, by a licensed provider, is neither. If you prescribe across state lines to patients you never see in person, that is a different conversation and it is the one LegitScript exists for.

Google’s own enumeration of certification types, given identically on two separate policy pages, is five: Online Pharmacy, Addiction Services, Telemedicine, Health Insurance, and Pharmaceutical manufacturer. Regenerative medicine is not one of them. Neither is aesthetics, hormone therapy, weight loss, IV therapy or functional medicine.

The catch

And if you wanted it in order to advertise stem cell or PRP, it will not help.

This is usually the real question underneath. Somebody has been told that stem cell advertising needs a certification, so they go looking for which one to buy.

There is nothing to buy. Stem cell therapy, cellular therapy, gene therapy and platelet rich plasma are named in Google’s policy text under speculative and experimental medical treatment. That is a prohibition, not a restriction. A restriction has a certification that unlocks it. A prohibition does not, by definition.

Speculative and experimental medical treatment, cell therapies, and gene therapies. support.google.com/adspolicy/answer/15596627, read 2026-09-19 and confirmed 2026-09-21. Full quote and both exceptions on our PRP page.

Two routes do exist and neither is a certification. The page carries an exception request, for entities holding the relevant FDA licence to market the product, and the ordinary appeal process is available like anywhere else. We read the FDA exception as written for manufacturers rather than for clinics, and we mark that as our reading rather than as policy text.

If an agency has quoted you a certification to unlock stem cell advertising, ask them to name the certification and the policy page that grants it. There is no answer to that question, which is the fastest way to find out who you are dealing with.

The constructive part

What a regenerative clinic actually has to get right.

Nothing on the certification list, and two things that are not on anybody’s checklist.

  • Your licensed states against your geo targeting. This is the one that ends accounts, and it is a setting rather than a word. More on it below.
  • Which of your services are prohibited, restricted, and neither. The prohibited set is short and named. Most of a clinic’s menu was never restricted at all, which is the opposite of what this category believes.
  • Four surfaces, not one. Your keyword list, your ad copy, your landing page, and your booking tool’s service menu one click behind the ad. That fourth surface is the one nobody audits and it is fully visible to a reviewer.
  • Advertiser verification, which is not certification and is often what the banner is actually asking for. Documents, organisation questions, and a funding source question. It has no relationship to healthcare category access.

What we do not know, said as unknown

  • A January 2026 prescription-drug pre-approval process. We could not find it on the healthcare page, which names an application requirement but no effective date. Treat as unknown rather than as settled either way.
  • Whether the compounded GLP-1s are reachable by the unapproved substances catch-all. Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not on Google’s named list. The exposure is a clause about products subject to any government or regulatory action or warning. Whether Google treats an FDA action against a substance class that way is not stated on any policy page we read.

Who wrote this

The person who runs the accounts this came from.

This page was written by Preston Durnford, who founded and runs PELORA Marketing from Newport Beach, California, working with clinics nationwide. He has taken this question from three clinic owners in the last month, all of whom had been quoted a certification they did not need.

Before the agency he built and operated the kind of businesses PELORA now markets, and he still operates Epic Journey Recovery, which is why the healthcare work is informed by having sat on the other side of it, taking the calls and paying for the ads.

The figures beside this are Preston’s personal track record from companies he owned and operated before PELORA. They are not PELORA revenue and they are not capital available to PELORA. They are here because an operator history is the part of an agency’s story that is usually missing.

If you are reading this because ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Claude handed it to you, that is deliberate. Those systems quote a sentence that carries a number, a named policy and a date. They do not quote positioning, which is why this page has none above the fold.
